FUNDRAISE WITH CWB

Get involved!

YOUR DONATIONS CAN FUEL AMAZING THINGS

By fundraising for us you allow us to continue turning research into action on the big issues, both in public and behind the scenes. It helps us to support a global network of organisations and individuals working on migratory species, and undertaking unique expeditions to create powerful stories to bring the challenges of migratory species into the public domain.

There are many ways in which you can get involved and we are here to support your efforts. Whatever way to choose to take action, you’ll spread awareness and raise money for wildlife conservation. We recommend using a platform such as Just Giving. As well as events, consider marking a special event like a birthday, wedding or final exam by asking friends for donations rather than gifts.

Top tips for creating an online fundraiser

Make it personal: Chose a challenge you really want to do. Show your passion and commitment to what you’re doing. Start with a story. Why are migratory species important to you? Describing how conservation has touched your life is a key element of your message. Why is CWB important to you? Remember people are primarily interested in you.

Target: Setting a fundraising target helps to increase donations, especially as you approach the goal

Nobody likes to be the first: Be the first person to donate to your page. Other people are more likely to donate to your page when they see that someone has already contributed. Donating your own money also shows potential supporters that you are serious about helping conservation.

Inner Circle: Before you go public, share it with your inner circle. Get close friends and family on board to donate to build momentum. Personalise your message to encourage them to donate.

Get Social: Let your followers know about your campaign on social media pages, email and WhatsApp.  Make sure you include the link to your fundraising page. If sharing on socials, tag those who have already donated and thank them.

Follow-up: Remind friends, family, colleagues etc about your campaign and link to your page

Say thanks: Write a personal thank you to everyone who donates.

Don’t go it alone: See if you can recruit like-minded people to join you in creating/taking part in the event. The more people involved, the more awareness for the cause.

Let us know if you are holding a fundraiser and keep us in the loop with how you are doing.

After and during the event please share any pictures/videos/update with us, if you are happy for us to publish online.

If you would like support and promotional material to get your fundraiser started, contact kathleen@conservation-without-borders.org. Our CEO Sacha Dench may even be happy to record a short video message in support of your challenge.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Stuck for ideas on what you could do to raise funds? Here are some ideas to get you started.

HOW TO GET STARTED?

Donate your birthdays/ anniversaries/ Christmas

Most of us have most things we need, but people like to show their love and friendship with gifts, so allowing people to make a gift in support of conservation, matters. Whenever your birthday or other celebration day is, you can set up the donation page today.

World Migratory Bird day comes twice a year (May 13, October 14 2023 - https://www.worldmigratorybirdday.org ). Put on a dinner party and charge people a donation to CWB to attend. Add a raffle on the night to raise a bit more.

Let’s get physical

Conservation Without Borders began by pushing boundaries and breaking world records. You do not need to become a World Record Holder, but challenging yourself in support of a charity is a great way to raise funds and support from your network and give you the incentive to complete your challenge. Here are some ideas for those of you who want to challenge yourself:

Sponsored run: Even if you’re not sporty, people will see how dedicated you are to fundraising. If you want to add an extra element, run in a costume, between two important sites. Wearing a CWB t-shirt will let people know you are doing it for conservation.

Fly like an osprey: Take to the skies for a sponsored paraglide or sky dive and see what the view is like from a bird’s perspective

Aint no mountain high enough: Have head for heights? Why not push yourself to climb a mountain and raise money in the process.

Wild walk-a-thon: Organise a sponsored walk around a nature area. You could add a challenge to pick up plastic en route. Or add an overnight element and camp out.

Dive in: Outdoor swimming challenge or even a distance swim in your local swimming pool.

Treadmill/cycle relay race: See if you can partner with a local gym (great publicity for them, too). Collect pledges of specific donation amounts per mile that their team completes. This event can also be completed virtually for anyone with access to equipment at home.

Golf: Charge participants to take part in a fun team golf event, choose a migratory animal as team icons, add in migratory animal questions to skip a hole.

5-a-Side Football Tournament: Organise a local 5-a-side football tournament with teams paying to take part. You could hold it in your local park, or ask your local leisure or football club if they’d consider letting you use their facilities free of charge.

Battle of the brains.

Trivia nights:  Easy to organize, affordable to host, and can be customized to appeal to any audience. Ask a local restaurant or bar to host your fundraising event and encourage participants to form teams in advance. Know a bunch of bird nerds? Put them through their paces and do a bird themed quiz to see who soars.

Sing till your winning: Invite donors to unleash their inner star with a night of karaoke. Charge for entry, then encourage spectators to vote for their favourite performers through small donations. The performer with the most donations is the winner.

Murder mystery: A genre -themed dress up party where participants have to solve who the fictitious murderer is amongst them.

Get Crafty

Can you knit, fold paper, sing? Set a quirky challenge and you might get your attention and the attention of local media, getting even more donations.

Skills Auction: Ask your friends and family to offer up the services and skills, that you can auction off to the highest bidder. Skills could be anything from gardening, educational lessons, guided walk, music workshops to cooking classes.

Art attack – Are you a talented artist/photographer? Why not offer a personalised picture to the highest bidder of the animal of their choice.

Village fete: You can host different activities and have stalls to maximize the profit –face painting for children, a cake sale, craft table.

Schools out

Get the children (and adults!) to dress up as their favourite migratory species. Have fun games like eating like the animal, running like one, climbing wall etc.

Sponsored litter pick/waterway clean up: Arrange a trip to the beach, river, park, woodland etc and not only do you raise funds, but you clean up the environment, too.
