Volunteer Administrator
Camilla Massara
I joined the team as a volunteer administrator to provide support to CWB's team and operations. My role is to assist wherever needed, helping to ensure the team runs smoothly and has the administrative and organisational support required to deliver their work effectively.
I believe in the importance of strong operational foundations in enabling an organisation to maximise its impact. By providing reliable support behind the scenes, this role helps the team focus on delivering meaningful impact and advancing CWB’s mission.
Leatherback turtles have always fascinated me. As one of the most wide-ranging migratory species, they undertake some of the longest migrations of any marine species. Unlike most reptiles, leatherbacks can maintain warmer body temperatures in cold water, allowing them to travel vast distances between tropical nesting beaches and temperate or even sub-polar foraging grounds. I find most remarkable their ability to return to the very beaches where they were born to nest despite navigating these vast ocean routes. These migrations cross international waters, multiple countries' jurisdictions and interconnected ecosystems, making their protection complex, but globally significant.
I took this photo on the edge of the Sumatran rainforest. I have fond memories of this time in one of the most beautiful places I have ever lived. This rainforest is known for its exceptional biodiversity and is one of the last remaining habitats of its kind. Sadly, it remains one of the world’s most threatened ecosystems.
